Day 5 at Wimbledon: Norrie shines through to 4th round; Sakkari, Kerber upsets

Briton Cameron Norrie defeated American Steve Johnson in straight sets 6-4 6-1 6-0 reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time. Maria Sakkari from Greece and 2018 Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber lose out early on in the third round of the tournament.

England’s No.1 seed in Men’s singles towered over Johnson with 0 double faults and created 21 break opportunities (of which he won 6). He won 102 points in total.

In Women’s Singles draw, German Tatjana Maria stunned 5th seed Maria Sakkari 6-3 7-5 and Angelique Kerber lost to 24th seed Elise Mertens 6-4 7-5 on Friday.

Norrie will now face another American Tommy Paul in the fourth round. Number 1 seed Novak Djokovic steadily drifts through the draw, waiting to battle Dutch player Tim van Rijthoven for a place in the Quarterfinals. After causing a significant hometown upset by defeating Andy Murray, John Isner fought a hard battle but Italian Janik Sinner came out stronger with straight sets. Grass court specialist Ugo Humbert lost to David Goffin in an epic 4-sets match.

12th seed Jelena Ostapenko took Irina-Camelia Begu to a 3-setter match, winning 3-6 6-1 6-1. Tunisian Ons Jabeur confidently taking out her opponents glides through to the 4th round 6-2 6-3 against Diane Parry. British Heather Watson joins Cameron Norrie to bring Hometown Glory by drifting past Kaja Juvan 7-6 6-2.
