Three more nations admitted to the ICC

During the ongoing ICC Annual Conference in Birmingham on Tuesday, July 26, the ICC granted membership status to three new nations.
Cote D’Ivoire from Africa, Cambodia from Asia, and Uzbekistan from Asia were all granted Associate membership status, bringing the overall number of ICC members to 108, including 96 Associates.

The two Asian teams bring the total number of Asian nations to 25, and Cote D’Ivoire is the twenty-first African nation.

Clause 2.1 (d) of the ICC Membership Criteria, under the heading “Participation and domestic structures,” describes one of the key requirements for becoming an ICC Member. This entails putting in place a suitable framework with minimum team specifications for 50-over and 20-over competitions, in addition to distinct junior and women’s routes.

The Cricket Federation of Uzbekistan’s (CFU) women’s cricket plan, which involves 15 teams competing in organised competitions with a pathway programme for their Under-19 and Under-17 players, demonstrated that the three additional countries met these requirements.

Rising Graph of Cricket Worldwide:

The CĂ´te d’Ivoire Cricket Federation conducts a senior men’s national league with eight teams in addition to a robust grassroots programme. Notably, they have also made a number of efforts to advance women’s cricket, such as appointing a female board member to lead this cause.

The board granted membership to the Cricket Association of Cambodia (CAC), which was severely damaged by Covid-19, with the condition that before the end of the year, it must show that it has a reliable women’s pathway in place.

Eight schools are slated to resume indoor cricket activities, and a T20 event with eight teams is also planned for November 2022.

  1. Good update. I am surprised at the inclusions. Do you know the basis on which they got included?

And is there a list of 108?
