Sable win historic silver in Birmingham 22

The steeplechase event at the commonwealth games has been long dominated by the Kenyans, who have won all medals in the event since 1996. But this long standing streak has been broken by our very own, Avinash Sable, an army-man and a long distance runner from India.

Avinash Sable ran a new PB of 8.11.20 minutes setting a new national record. Sable picked up speed in the last 800m of the race leaving behind two Kenyan athletes and was just 0.05 sec away from winning the gold. The race was won by Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya who was the silver medalist in the last edition of the Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast.
