The world indoor title holder had one more amazing runs of his career when he became the European 800m Champion. Mariano Garcia won the final of the 800m in European Athletics Championship being held in Munich. The Spaniard took the gold in 1.44.85 while Jake Whightman of England finished second with just 6/100th second behind Garcia. Ireland’s Mark English finished third on the podium with 1.45.19.
He was clearly not the favourite in the race as he has not broken 1:45 over the distance. The field by also very packed with many good racers with better PBs than him. But his speed over the last 100m couldn’t be matched by the 1500m World Champion, Jake Whightman.
