India’s campaign in the Japan Open came to an end on Friday as Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen defeated HS Prannoy in the men’s singles quarterfinals. At the world championships, Chou Tien Chen had taken home the bronze medal.
In a dramatic encounter that lasted one hour and 20 minutes, Chou won 21-17 15-21 22-20 despite the 30-year-old Indian giving it his all and saving three match points. But in the end, all the efforts went in vain for HS Prannoy.
Chou Tien Chen’s perseverance ultimately gave him the victory in the match at the Super 750 competition, despite the fact that Prannoy, one of the most dependable Indian players on the circuit this season, fought back admirably from an early game loss and kept his opponent on the ropes until the very last point.
