Former Indian Captain Feels That Shami Should Have Been In India’s T20 World Cup Squad

The 15-player roster for the Next T20 World Cup, which will take place in Australia in October-November, was unveiled by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday. In an ICC tournament, Rohit Sharma will serve as the team’s captain for the first time, with KL Rahul serving as his assistant.

After both players missed several recent matches due to their individual injuries, Jasprit Bumrah, the pace spearhead for India, made a comeback and Harshal Patel joined him. In the meantime, there has been discussion around Mohammad Shami’s exclusion from the team and inclusion as a standby player.

Shami must have been selected for the team, according to former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth. The former cricket player continued by saying that the pacer from Uttar Pradesh should have been selected instead of Harshal Patel.

We are playing in Australia, the guy’s got the real action, the guy’s got bounce, he can withstand the moment, and he can get on early wickets, so I would have probably picked Shami instead of Harshal Patel, said Srikkanth to a source. “If I were the chairman of the selection committee, (Mohammad) Shami is definitely in the team,” he added.

Shami, who represented Gujarat Titans, a new team, appeared in 16 games and recorded 20 wickets in the Indian Premier League 2022. His season bowling economy was 8.00, and his strike rate was 18.30. The right-arm pacer was essential to Gujarat Titans’ championship triumph.
