Teenager Pranav Anand from Bengaluru passed the 2,500 Elo threshold during the present World Youth Chess Championship in Mamaia, Romania, to become the 76th Grandmaster of India. The 15-year-old earned the title late on Thursday after having previously fulfilled the other qualifications for a GM title.
A player must achieve three GM norms and an Elo rating of 2,500 live to become a Grandmaster (GM).
Anand earned his third and last GM norm in July during the 55th Biel Chess Festival in Switzerland.
According to sources, Anand’s coach V Saravanan stated that,
He is especially good in calculation and end games…they are his two biggest strengths right now.
Also, the most important reason for Pranav’s achievement is the dedication of his family, his mother, father…They have spent so much time on and supported him.
