The saga surrounding RB Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund has finally come to an end as the club officially announce that they are renewing with the German.
Freund himself and the club put out statements which confirmed that he will not be joining at Chelsea.
The agreement that RB Salzburg and Freund had with Chelsea has been cancelled as the Red Bull Group have decided to keep him at the club.
In his statement Freund said, “Yes, it’s true that Chelsea wanted me — and we had talks, I was thinking about Chelsea director job as I’ve been proud of the interest of such a top club”.
There was also word from RB Salzburg chief Stephan Reiter. “Freund has been excellent at the club and only recently extended his contract until 2026. I can hereby confirm that he remain the sporting director of RB Salzburg”, said Reiter.
He also added that Freund and himself spoke about the interest Chelsea showed towards Freund.
