Star players absent for Manchester derby

The reigning Premier League champions welcome rivals Manchester United to the Etihad on Sunday for an eagerly-awaited clash. The thirteen time Champions goes Head to Head against the best team in the current decade. City host rivals United in the 188th meeting between the two teams. Both sides head into it in fine form, with City unbeaten so far this season, while Erik ten Hag’s men are on a superb run of four straight Premier League wins. There’s been 454 goals scored in 164 league meetings between Manchester United and Manchester City. The current goal difference is 0 with both teams having scored 227 goals each.

But several players will be missing out the game due to injury. As previously reported, for the reigning Premier League champions, Aymeric Laporte hasn’t featured at all for City this season as he continues his recovery from knee surgery. His last outing was the final game of last season, the memorable 3-2 win over Aston Villa which confirmed the league title. England international John Stones will be sidelined after sustaining a hamstring injury. Manchester Derby will be the next game for Man city, which will be missed by Stones. Kalvin Phillips ‘feels really good’ after his shoulder surgery, and ‘he took the right decision’, says Pep Guardiola. John Stones’s absence won’t affect the Cityzens as their new signing Manuel Akanji is a top class defender.

Meanwhile for the Red Devils, Harry Maguire is recent one to be ruled out of Sunday’s Manchester derby. Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams are still long-term absentees. Martial and Rashford back in training. Manchester United’s run in the Premier League is too good that their manager Erik Ten Hag won the Manager of the Month and Marcus Rashford won the Player of the Month awards.
