Liverpool and Brighton play out an enthralling 3-3 draw at Anfield

Liverpool and Brighton shared points in what was a tight game contested at a packed Anfield stadium earlier today. The Seagulls were determined and showed great spirit in bringing Liverpool to a standstill at their own backyard. The points were shared in what was a 3-3 draw that was full of action till the blow of the final whistle.

The match started off in great style for Brighton who took an early lead through Leandro Trossard as he picked up the ball in the box with an assist from Danny Welbeck and slotted it home past Alisson through the bottom right corner.

Soon it was double delight for the Seagulls as they went 2-0 up in the 17th minute as Trossard scored his second goal of the match with an assist from Solly March. It was a mistake from Alexander-Arnold that gave the ball away to Moises Caicedo who found March who then put it to Trossard who fired past Alisson.

Liverpool were clearly showing their defensive woes. But it was not too late before Roberto Firmino put Liverpool on the scoreboard in the 33rd minute. He was the quickest to react to a poor touch from Salah as he fired past goalkeeper Sanchez.

Brighton then started feeling the pressure as Firmino doubled on his goal tally as Liverpool came back in stunning fashion to level the score at 2-2. Liverpool were quick to attack on the counter as Diaz played the ball to Firmino who then chopped it past Lewis Dunk to score the equalizer.

More misery would strike the Seagulls as they trailed Liverpool 3-2 in the 54th minute as Adam Webster unfortunately latched onto a delivery from a Liverpool corner kick from Alexander-Arnold. He had little time to react as the ball deflected off his body and into his own goal.

But Brighton held on as they continued to create chances at the other end to put pressure on the home side. Finally, it would come to avail as Trossard netted his third goal to complete a fantastic hat-trick at Anfield. Mitoma sent out a cross across the box which was left clear by Welbeck only for Trossard to slot it above Alisson with his left foot. A stunning finish saw Brighton come back from behind to level the game at 3-3.

5 minutes of stoppage time was not enough to decide a winner as the game came to an end with both teams sharing 1 point each. A superb start for new manager Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton.

With the draw Brighton stand in 4th place above Chelsea in 5th and behind Tottenham in 3rd. But that could change if Manchester United manage to beat Manchester City tomorrow at the Etihad. Liverpool meanwhile continue to suffer as they are only 9th in the table, 11 points behind league leaders Arsenal. They only have 2 wins so far. They continue to look for solutions. They play Manchester City and Arsenal back to back in the upcoming weeks.
