A dominant week in Tel Aviv comes to a close for top seed Novak Djokovic as he claims the title by beating second seed Croatian Marin Cilic in straight sets with a score of 6-3 6-4. By winning the ATP 250 event, Djokovic claims his 89th career title.
Looking in fine form, Novak won the tournament without dropping a single set despite facing some very capable opponents along the way.
Djokovic played a consistent game throughout as he landed great returns against the big serves of Cilic. He showed his strong baseline game throughout the match as he played with great depth. In a dominant first set, the Serb did not face a single break point which he went onto win 6-3.
Djokovic started the second set by breaking the Cilic serve. That one break would prove to be enough for the Serb as he would go onto seal the set 6-4 and claim the title in Tel Aviv.
With the victory, Djokovic becomes the only player to win a title on hard, clay and grass courts this season. He also becomes one of five players to win at least three tour-level titles this year. He joins Carlos Alcaraz (5 titles), Rafael Nadal (4 titles), Casper Ruud (4 titles) and Andrey Rublev (3 titles). Djokovic would be looking to win his fourth title of the season at next week’s Astana Open which is an ATP 500 event.
