Then Glenn Philips entered and built an solid partnership of 84 runs with Mitchell. Despite wickets falling at one end, Glenn Philips smashed fours and sixes at will and scored a century of 104 runs off just 64 deliveries which included 10 fours and 4 sixes and Santner end contribution took New Zealand to a score of 167 for 7 in their quota of 20 overs.

Sri Lanka began the chase with flury of wickets falling as they lost 4 wickets for only 8 runs. With Boult taking three wickets and Southee taking one wicket. Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals and it was only Rajapaksa scoring 34 runs and skipper Shanaka contributing 35 runs.

Sri Lanka tailenders fell quickly and New Zealand wrapped up Sri Lanka for an score of 102. Santner and Sodhi taking 2 wickets each and Boult took 4 wickets in his spell of 4 overs. New Zealand won by an margin of 65 runs.
