T20 World Cup 2022 : Group 1 New Zealand Defeats Ireland By A Margin Of 35 Runs And Stays In The Top Of The Points Table With 7 Points

Ireland after winning the toss and putting New Zealand into bat, New Zealand openers started slowly but after 2 overs both the openers started to attack Ireland bowlers where opener Finn Allen scored a good knock of 32 runs off 18 balls in the Powerplay but got out to Adair and New Zealand scored 52 runs in the Powerplay. After that both Kane and Conway played very slowly and were rotating singles and twos.

After 10 overs were finished, Conway took the attack mode of hitting 14 runs in one over in which 3 boundaries in which Kane also scored a boundary.But Conway when started to accelerate got out after low score of 28 runs in 33 balls. Glenn Phillips entered but did not take much time to settle but hit a four and a six in his 3 balls and further he only lasted for his 9 ball 17 runs.

It was their skipper Kane Williamson who took the Ireland bowlers to the cleaners hitting an over for 21 Runs and he hit his fifty runs and made an excellent contribution of 61 runs off just 35 balls which included 5 fours and 3 sixes but after that, they lost 3 continuous wickets as Little took his maiden hattrick. And it was Mitchell death overs vital knock of 31 off 21 took New Zealand to an total of 185 for 6 in their full 20 overs.

For Ireland it was Little with three wickets that too hattrick and giving only 22 runs in his four overs also delany picked up two wickets. Ireland started their innings in a good fashion as both batters Balnirnie and Stirling steadied the partnership of scoring 39 runs in the Powerplay. Further, these two got 29 runs off next two overs off Santner and Sodhi.

But Ireland skipper who was looking good was dismissed after a well made 30 runs to Santner. Stirling also followed his captain as he also got out to Sodhi after scoring 37 runs off 27 balls. But after that, Ireland kept losing wickets at regular intervals and in the end Ireland only managed to score a total of 150 for 9 in their 20 overs.

New Zealand won by a margin of 35 runs. With the ball, it was Ferguson with three wickets of giving only 22 runs in his quota of 4 overs where Sodhi, Southee and Santner picking two wickets each. With this win, New Zealand stays in the top of the table with 7 points in Group 1.

Brief Scoreboard : New Zealand 185/6 in 20 overs (Kane Williamson 61, Finn Allen 32, Joshua Little 3-22) beat Ireland 150/9 in 20 overs (Paul Stirling 37, Andrew Balbirnie 30, Lockie Ferguson 3-22, Mitchell Santner 2-26, Ish Sodhi 2-31) by 35 runs.
