Araújo set to miss Qatar World Cup 2022

The Uruguayan international a Barcelona FC’s defender Ronald Araújo will miss World Cup due to his thigh injury during the International friendlies. Due to injury, he returned to Barcelona for medical treatment which is in very dire situation.

The Uruguay Football Association insist Barcelona not to do the surgery as it will take 2-3 months to heal completely as World Cup is in less than 2 months. The 23-year-old picked up a knock to his tendon in the right thigh during La Celeste’s international friendly against Iran on Friday. Araújo could decide to have surgery, but that would prevent him from competing in the World Cup. He might also adopt a more cautious stance, which could result in future issues.

According to Spanish news outlet SPORT (via Barca Universal), Uruguay are pressurizing Araujo to postpone the surgery until after the World Cup.

Senior veteran Diego Godín has travelled to Spain to recover from an injury, which has kept him sidelined for Vélez Sarsfield. The Uruguayan captain has been injured who has already been out since August.

Diego Alonso’s team would be extremely concerned if Araújo also ruled out because they were placed in a tough group with teams like South Korea, Ghana, and Portugal.

As things stand, the defender is set to miss the next six to seven weeks, but the Catalans expect to have him for the second half of the campaign. He has been the key defender for both club and country.

It has been confirmed that Araújo has decided to have surgery on Wednesday so that he may not face any complications in future.

Uruguay will begin their World Cup campaign against South Korea on November 24.
