Astana Open Day 5: Quarter-finals day as it unraveled

Quarter-finals day at the Astana Open ATP 500 event got underway earlier today in the Kazakh capital of Astana. Some big names made the last eight list including Daniil Medvedev, Novak Djokovic, Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

First up was Andrey Rublev, the fifth seed, who was taking on Frenchman Adrian Mannarino. The Russian displayed fine tennis to take down Mannarino in straight sets in quite considerable fashion as he won 6-1 6-2 breaking his opponent’s serve four times.

Third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas set up a high octane clash with seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz. In an entertaining match, it was the Greek that prevailed in straight sets 7-6 (10-8 in the tiebreak) 6-3 to make his ninth semi-final of the year.

Fourth seed Novak Djokovic continue his unbeaten run without dropping a set since winning Wimbledon three months ago as he defeated Karen Kachanov in straight sets 6-4 6-3.

Second seed Daniil Medvedev was particularly standout in his quarter-final against Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut. The Russian dominated the match as he went on to win in straight sets in convincing fashion as he won 6-1 6-1.

Both semi-finals tomorrow are sure to bring some action packed tennis to fans watching around the world as Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev will face Novak Djokovic. Which two men will take to the final in Astana?
