Belgium coach Roberto Martinez has named his squad that will be facing the remaining group fixtures for the UEFA Nations League that are set to take place this month. It’s an important phase as teams are getting their final chance at observing the players before the crucial World Cup selection phase.
Belgium are set to play their remaining two games against Wales in Brussels on 22nd September and The Netherlands at Amsterdam on the 25th of September respectively. The Belgians stand second in their group and are three points behind leaders Netherlands.
Martinez has named his 30 man squad for those two games.
A particularly interesting sight is the inclusion of 18 year-old Anderlecht defender Zeno Debast. But Martinez said that the inclusion of the teenager shouldn’t come as a surprise.
“It is no surprise because of the impressive way he has started the season”, Martinez said earlier today.
“The progression of a player is linked to what they do at club level and he has been a very impressive player with a huge role. Then you stop looking at the age and rather look at his potential”, he added.
Romelu Lukaku misses out on the squad due to injury as Denayer also misses out on playing both the games as he has failed to find a new club yet after departing from Olympique Lyonnais.
The team announced the squad over social media.
