Decision Review System Set To Be Included In The Upcoming Big Bash League And In Women’s Big Bash League For The First Time

Both Big Bash League and Women’s Big Bash League will both use the Decision Review System for the first time during the 2022–23 campaign. The implementation of DRS has been welcomed by both players and match officials who want to see true improvements in decision making without any influence on match speed.

The system will be used for all 24 Weber WBBL|08 matches and all KFC BBL|12 games. As a result of its successful debut in the BBL, Power Surge will now also be utilised in the WBBL. The BBL will also employ a “innings clock” this year in replacement of the Bash Boost point and X-Factor replacement.

Every innings will now start with a four-over Powerplay in both tournaments, with the potential for the batting side to request a two over Power Surge between the overs from 11 to 20. A maximum of two fielders may be outside the field restriction circle at any particular time  “.  In the KFC BBL|12, an “innings clock” will be utilised, requiring fielding side to begin the last over within just 79 minutes plus allowances.

If this requirement is not reached, the fielding team will be penalised during the match and will be limited to using only four fielders outside of the field restriction circle for the remaining of their innings.
