English Bowler Creates Record For Giving Away Most Runs In A T20 Match

In Saturday’s match between the two teams in the T20 Blast 2022 quarterfinal, Somerset batsmen took Derbyshire spinner Mattie McKiernan to the cleaners. McKiernan went on to set a world record for the most runs allowed by a bowler in a T20 game by giving up an astounding 82 runs in his four-over stint. The right-arm leg spinner had a forgettable evening as he had no answers for the brutality of the Somerset hitters.

In the quarterfinal, Somerset batted first and got off to a fast start thanks to openers Tom Banton and Will Smeed, who put up 49 runs for the first wicket. Smeed was able to score a run every other ball, but Banton blasted a quickfire 41-ball 73 that included six sixes and four fours. Following Smeed’s departure, Banton and South African batswoman Rilee Rossouw worked together to demolish the Derbyshire bowling lineup.

Rossouw lost control of the willow and smashed an incredible 93 off just 36 balls, including 8 fours and 7 sixes. Before the Proteas’ third-wicket partnership of 56 runs with captain Tom Abell during their batting innings, Rossouw and Banton put on a stunning 102-run stand for the second wicket (22).

McKiernan was hit all over the park at The Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton as a result of the onslaught from the Somerset hitters. He let up 47 runs in his last three overs after being taken for an astounding 35 runs in only one over.

  1. Just a bad day at the office. The bowler should chin up and look forward. But not taking anything away from the batters🔥

  2. Comes as a reminiscent of Stuart Broad’s over during the test vs India where Bumrah scored 35 off him. Poor guy. Should probably put it aside and move on.

  3. I think the bowler will be demoralised by now after giving away record runs I think records are meant to be broke and Somerset i think just did that of hitting brutal of 82 runs in his quota of 4 overs which is madness.🥲😂
