Kyrgios declares after violating Wimbledon’s dress rule, “I do what I want”

Even on a day when he displayed immaculate on-court conduct, Nick Kyrgios could not help but make fun of authority figures and Wimbledon’s all-white dress code.

The 27-year-old Australian has already received two fines during the competition, and he may receive a third after entering the court on Monday for his fourth-round match against Brandon Nakashima while wearing red sneakers.

After winning the match in five sets, he switched back to his red shoes and wore a red cap during the on-court interview. He had worn white during the match. When asked later why he had purposefully disobeyed the rule requiring players to wear all white on the court, the Australian gave a scathing reply.

Kyrgios, who is making his first appearance in the quarterfinals since his debut in 2014, responded, “Because I do what I want.” When questioned if he felt above the law, he responded, “No, I’m not above the law.” I merely enjoy donning my Jordans. That’s alright. Tomorrow, I’ll don a pair of Triple Whites.
