On Firday, Louis van Gaal announced that he will be stepping down as the head coach of the Dutch national team following their loss to Argentina in the World Cup quarter finals. In his place, Ronald Koeman has been appointed as the new head coach.
Van Gaal, who has been the head coach of the Dutch national team since 2012, has had a successful tenure, leading the team to the World Cup semi-finals in 2014 and earning the title of third-best team in the world. However, their loss to Argentina in the quarter finals of this year’s World Cup was a disappointment for both van Gaal and the team.
In a statement, van Gaal said, “I am proud of what we have achieved in the last few years, but I also believe that it is time for a change. I have given my all to this team and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Dutch national team. I wish them all the best in the future and I am confident that they will continue to be a strong force in international football.”
Ronald Koeman, who has previously coached teams such as Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, and Feyenoord, has been appointed as van Gaal’s successor. Koeman, who has also played for the Dutch national team, has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the world of football.
In a press conference, Koeman said, “I am honored to have been given the opportunity to coach the Dutch national team. I am aware of the expectations and I am ready to take on the challenge. I will work hard to ensure that the team continues to be successful and that we make the Dutch fans proud.”
The Dutch Football Association has expressed their confidence in Koeman’s abilities and have praised van Gaal for his contributions to the team. The search for a new assistant coach is currently underway and the Dutch national team is looking forward to a successful future under Koeman’s leadership
