The Mumbai Indians have named former South Africa keeper-batter coach Mark Boucher as their head coach. Boucher, who is currently playing in the same position for South Africa, will depart the national side following the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Mark Boucher’s decision to retire as well as the information that he was in contact with a few franchises regarding a role in the IPL. But, today, Mumbai Indians appointed him as head coach.
Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene had already been MI’s head coach since 2017. Mark Boucher takes his spot. Under his direction, the Mumbai Indians have won three championships. The franchise’s growth and the acquisition of teams in both the SA20 and the ILT20 led to Jayawardene’s promotion to a new role as the Global Head of Performance.
In light of Mumbai Indians Emirates and Mumbai Indians Cape Town entering the MI family, the club administration has appointed Mahela Jayawardene as well as Zaheer Khan to new roles as part of a central team that is the roles of Global Head of Performance and Global Head of Cricket Development.
Mark Boucher has stated that, it is a privilege and an honour to be selected the head coach of MI. As per their achievements and history as a franchise, one of the most successful sports franchises in all of international sports in general.
