Netherlands announce squad for this month’s Nations League fixtures

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has decided on his squad for the team’s remaining two Nations League fixtures against Poland and Belgium respectively. The squad shrinks in size to 25 players from a preliminary squad of 32 now. van Gaal gives a sign of what players he might go with for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The squad also sees the retainment of the uncapped trio consisting of goalkeepers Andires Noppert and Remko Pasveer and Ajax attacker Kenneth Taylor.

The Dutch team currently top their Nations League group with 10 points on the board from four games.

van Gaal gave his thoughts on his selection as he indicated that this would be the last chance to observe how the players perform before they head to the World Cup.

He also acknowledged that the time to prepare for the World Cup is very limited and that the team have to utilize whatever time they have left.

The squad for this month currently looks like this:

Goalkeepers – Jasper Cillessen (NEC Nijmegen), Mark Flekken (Freiburg), Andries Noppert (Heerenveen), Remko Pasveer (Ajax Amsterdam)

Defenders – Nathan Ake (Manchester City), Daley Blind (Ajax Amsterdam), Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern Munich), Stefan de Vrij (Inter Milan), Denzel Dumfries (Inter Milan), Tyrell Malacia (Manchester United), Bruno Martins Indi (AZ Alkmaar), Devyne Rensch, Jurrien Timber (both Ajax Amsterdam), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Most notable of them all is that Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek failed to make the cut as van Gaal would have probably cited to the lack of playtime van de Beek is getting at Old Trafford.
