Williams have made the official announcement that they will let go of their Canadian driver, Nicholas Latifi at the end of the 2022 season as the driver’s contract expires.
Latifi made his debut back in 2020. In 55 race starts, he scored 7 points with his first points finish coming at the Hungaroring last year.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Williams Racing – all the people back at the factory and those I work with trackside – for the last three years”, said Latifi. He also recalled his debut in Formula 1 and scoring his first points last year.
The Williams team have let out a statement where they said that they would announce who would be joining Alexander Albon at the team next year in due course of time. A strong candidate would be Nyck de Vries after his compelling performance on debut at Monza where he replaced the Thai driver.
Williams CEO and Team Principal, Josh Capito also had his say on Latifi. “On behalf of the whole team, I would like to say an enormous thank you to Nicholas for his three years of hard work with Williams. He is a great team player who has a great attitude towards his colleagues and work and is well liked and respected throughout the business”, said Capito.
Latifi also took to social media to give his thoughts.
