Pakistani batsman named Azhar Ali has announced that he will retire from Test cricket following the third test against England in Karachi, which starts on December 17. Azhar Ali will retire as Pakistan’s fifth highest run scorer in the format, after Inzamam Ul Haq, Younis Khan, Javed Miandad and Mohammad Yousuf.
Going into his final game, he has 7097 runs in 96 games, averaging 42.49. Azhar Ali stated that, “Being given the chance to represent my country at the highest level is something I value highly. It’s never easy to know when to hang up the baton, but after giving it some serious consideration, I came to the conclusion that this is the perfect moment for me to retire from Test cricket.”
The 37 year old took the field at Lord’s in his debut Test match against Australia in 2010. The runs started to come in after just his second outing, when he hit his first half-century. Later, he increased his format total by 19 centuries and 34 fifties.
With his highest Test score of 302, he became the only Pakistani batsman to record a triple ton in a pink ball Test in 2016.Azhar Ali also has two double centuries, one against Australia in Adelaide in December 2016 and one against Bangladesh in Dhaka in May 2015.
Azhar scored two hundred in an important victory against Australia in a 2014 Test played in Abu Dhabi. Now that he has at least one century under his belt in Australia, Bangladesh, England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, UAE, West Indies and Zimbabwe.
