For his final match of his career at the Laver Cup in London, Roger Federer stated on Wednesday that he wishes to partner with longtime foe Rafael Nadal. The 20-time Grand Slam champion revealed last week that he would be calling it quits after the competition at London’s 02 Arena, which begins on Friday. Federer has been dealing with a knee issue since his last match, which was a defeat to Hubert Hurkacz in the Wimbledon quarterfinals of the previous year. He won’t compete in a singles match in London, but he will play in the doubles on Friday night. ‘The most beautiful thing would be to play doubles with Nadal (as last match)” says Federer.

"I know that everybody has to do it at one point, that everybody has to leave the game and it's been a great-great journey. And for that, I'm really grateful."

Although the Swiss stated it would be the ideal situation, he does not yet know if he would be able to partner with Nadal. Team Europe includes Andy Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion, Novak Djokovic, who has won 21 Grand Slam championships, and Rafael Nadal, who now holds the record with 22.
