Fears about a struggling Indian bowling attack prior to the T20 World Cup grew during the pointless third T20 International at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. Rilee Rossouw’s fantastic knock of 100 not out off just 48 balls gave South Africa a spirit boosting victory by 49 runs.
Due to a raging Rossouw and Quinton de Kock knock of 68 runs of 43 balls South Africa was able to score 227 for three again against the Indian Pace attack that includes Harshal Patel, Umesh Yadav, Deepak Chahar and Mohammad Siraj.
India got off to a poor start when Rohit Sharma got out in the first over. Rishabh Pant opened the innings in K L Rahul’s absence, smashing 27 runs off just 14 balls, including two spectacular straight drives and a few sixes. For the first time in this series, Pant was given the chance to bat. India only had five specialist batsmen on the field, thus Dinesh Karthik was given the opportunity to bat at number four.
Dinesh Karthik made the most of the opportunity. In his 21-ball 46, he hit four sixes, including a breathtaking scoop off Wayne Parnell. After blazing two sixes off Keshav Maharaj, he made the fatal error of attempting a reverse hit and got out.
Deepak Chahar once again showed off his bat ability by putting off the inevitable with a joyous 31 off 17 balls. On a small, high-scoring field, no score is safe, but India kept losing wickets frequently and South Africa finished things off quickly and bowling out India for 178 all out after 18.2 overs.
Brief Scorecard: South Africa 227/3 in 20 overs (Rilee Rossouw 100*, Quinton de Kock 68, Umesh Yadav 1-34) beat India 178 in 18.3 overs (Dinesh Karthik 46, Deepak Chahar 31, Dwaine Pretorius 3-26) by 49 runs.
