Even if Nick Kyrgios was happy to “look like an idiot” after his brain-fade incident at the US Open 2022, his eccentric playing style and on-court swagger didn’t prevent him from making history in the Grand Slam competition. In the ongoing US Open, the outspoken Australian astonished the tennis world by defeating defending champion Daniil Medvedev on Monday.
In the round of 16 of the US Open, twenty-third-seeded Kyrgios defeated Medvedev 7-6 (11), 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the historical Arthur Ashe Stadium to earn his first victory.
Kyrgios has excelled in the men’s singles division, reaching his first-ever Grand Slam final at the Wimbledon Championships earlier this year. The World No.1 Daniil Medvedev early exit from the US Open in 2022 was confirmed by the Australian tennis player, further solidifying his place in history.
In the books of records, Kyrgios is the first athlete to have beaten the top seed twice in a single season since 1987. Further, Nick Kyrgios has qualified for the Quarterfinals of the on going US Open 2022, where he will be facing 27th seeded K. Khachanov.
