West Indies Women Beats New Zealand Women To Avoid Whitewash By 4 Wickets In The 3rd And Final ODI Series

West Indies denied New Zealand from white washing the three-match series in Antigua thanks to Stafanie Taylor’s half-century, captain Hayley Matthews’ all-around effort, and a collaborative bowling effort. Despite Laura Down’s fifty in the final ODI match, New Zealand had a mediocre total despite choosing to bat first.

Taylor had to leave the field hurt, but she had scored enough to the chase to assure that West Indies successfully chased down the total. In the 38th over, West Indies defeated New Zealand by four wickets with the help of Aaliyah Alleyne and Shakera Selmen.

Matthews, who scored 40 runs off 70 balls during the run chase, had some joy with the ball during the first half of the game. With Down’s expulsion, she finished with figures of 2 for 23 in 10 overs, reducing New Zealand’s chance of pushing a total beyond 200.

Down was able to put together a couple of quick stands as West Indies continued to lose wickets even though they were unable to find a skilled ally to design a thorough rescue strategy. After Down was removed in the 42nd over, New Zealand went from 155 for 7 to 168 all out in the 49th over. Spin bowling partners Afy Fletcher and Karishma Ramharack each claimed two wickets.

Brief Scorecard : New Zealand women 168 in 48.1 overs (Laura Down 53, Amelia Kerr 30, Hayley Matthews 2-23) lost to West Indies women 169/6 in 43.4 overs (Stafanie Taylor 51, Hayley Matthews 40, Jess Kerr 3-29) by 4 wickets.
