West Zone Defeats South Zone In The Duleep Trophy Final On The Final Day Of The Test Match

On the last day in Coimbatore, West Zone easily defeated South Zone to claim the Duleep Trophy Title. After seizing control of the situation at stumps on the fourth day, West Zone completed the formalities by picking up the final four wickets on the fifth Day morning.

It was almost over when South Zone, pursuing 529, dropped to 146/6. With the top six in the pavilion on the final day, R Sai Kishore and T Ravi Teja were handed the almost unimaginable task of being required to bat out the remainder of the overs.

They performed a good job on Sunday by temporarily delaying the West Zone attack. As Ravi Teja hit a fifty, Sai Kishore was content to bat out the innings. Interestingly, after Ravi Teja complained that he was constantly making fun of him, West Zone captain Ajinkya Rahane asked teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal to leave the field.

Chintan Gaja put an end to the frustrating stalemate, but the incident barely affected the game. Shams Mulani completed with a four-wickets as South Zone were bowled for 234 after picking up additional victims.

Brief Scoreboard : West Zone 270 (Het Patel 98, R Sai Kishore 5/86) & 585/4d (Yashasvi Jaiswal 265, R Sai Kishore 2/157) beat South Zone 327 (Baba Indrajith 118, Jaydev Unadkat 4/52) & 234 (Rohan Kunnummal 93, Shams Mulani 4/51) by 294 runs.
