Thailand has started the battle for the top-four slots with its historic first win against Pakistan in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup T20 tournament. Natthakan Chantham shined with a 51-ball 61 before Rosenan Kanoh and Nattaya Boochatham maintained their composure in the last over and chased down 117, their biggest ever chase in the Asia Cup.
But the spinners, who restrained Pakistani batters and limited them to just nine boundaries in the innings, laid the foundation for the four-wicket victory at Sylhet. Six of them were the efforts from Sidra Ameen, who led Pakistan past the 100-run mark with a career best score of 56 off 64 balls.
Sornnarin Tippoch, who finished with a 2 for 20 total, was the top bowler. Nattaya Boochatham gave her complete support even though did not take any wickets, but gave only 19 runs in her quota of 4 overs. Chantham replied by maintaining his composure at the top and led Thailand to 82/2 at the16th over,
But, however the dismissal of Naruemol Chaiwai by Kainat Imtiaz at that time set off a collapse that led to Chantham’s decisive dismissal in the 19th over. After dumping the batter in the deep early, Nida Dar defeated her. Nevertheless, the center’s cool heads allowed Thailand to finish the game with a ball to spare.
Brief Scoreboard : Pakistan 116/5 in 20 overs (Ameen 56, Tippoch 2-20) lost to Thailand 117/6 in 19.5 overs (Chantham 61, Tuba Hassan 2-18) by 4 wickets
