Women’s Asia Cup 2022 : Nida Dar’s All-round Effort With Both Bat And Ball Helps Pakistan Defeat India By 13 Runs

Nida Dar was the successful with both bat and ball as Pakistan overcame India for the third time in a WT20I game. The seasoned player led her side to a strong 137 for 6 with a score of 56* off of 37. She later took the important wickets of Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur to ensure her team won by 13 runs.

Pakistan made a remarkable comeback after losing to Thailand the day before. After deciding to bat, they were down to 33/3 in the Powerplay, and they once were forced to dig themselves out of a hole. They could rely on Dar and Bismah Maroof’s experience, and the pair set up a formidable 76 runs partnership with Dar seizing the lead. She made five fours and a six during her knock.

After a strong start, Sabbhineni Meghana tried to extricate Nashra Sandhu from the attack but was unsuccessful. Then Rodrigues was given two chances to comeback, but still both got out. After Smriti Mandhana was dismissed by Sandhu, India was reduced to 50/3. Strangely, Harmanpreet Kaur, the team’s returning captain, decided to go down the order. Deepti Sharma as well as Pooja got out as a result of an increasing needed rate and a stifling spin bowling performance.

When Kaur fell with 47 seconds left, the writing was already on the wall. However, Richa Ghosh, who had to leave the field in the first innings due to heat stroke, kept the momentum going with three sixes and a four in a 13-ball knock of 26. She made an additional attempt to exclude the contest by reducing the equation to 18 off 10 before finishing in second best to clear the field but got out. Pakistan then easily cruised home with the win.

Brief Scoreboard : Pakistan 137/6 in 20 overs (Nida Dar 56*, Bismah Maroof 32, Deepti Sharma 3-27) beat India 124 in 19.4 overs (Richa Ghosh 26, Nashra Sandhu 3-30, Nida Dar 2-23) by 13 runs.
